Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
I recently read some Newsweek research saying that the average IQ of California, my fair state, is only 95.1, where 100 is considered average. This is the third lowest average IQ in the country, just ahead of Mississippi and Louisiana! I look around me at this California culture, so called, and it kind of makes sense. Everyone has shifted their brains to their phones, so no one really has to think anymore. If you think about it, the only reasons we need intelligence at all is to find food, get a mate, and avoid dying. These things are fairly easy in our culture. Any intelligence beyond that is superfluous. So all the idiots in California are perfectly happy being idiots and don't feel the need to improve themselves in any way. So it's getting harder to find good art, music, literature, etc.. It's all dumbed down for the masses. And I don't know how it is in your state, but it seems like no one is growing up anymore. Think about it, we watch movies about superheroes, dolls, vampires, zombies and magic. We read graphic novels and pretend they are not comic books, which they are, We pretend to like Keith Haring and ignore the fact that he basically uses stick figures. Paintings are often insane scribblings and smears reflecting the anxiety of our times. Once upon a time, artists of all kinds were intellectuals, and usually very intelligent. Now, many artists are just crazy people making childish work. Our national average IQ is about 98. It would be higher, but all the idiots in Washington skew the results. If you want to move to a smart state, Massachusetts is at the top at 104.3.

I wrote a song a while back called "People Everywhere Suck: Basically its true and not just in California. Wherever you live in this world there are some stupid sucky people. For years I have been trying to figure out if there is something in the water or the air that causes this but I think the truth of the matter is that we have evolved into this unintelligent mass of idiots whose ego's will not allow them to accept the truth about themselves. California may be a shining example of this but it is not exclusively a California problem. Or, even an American problem. It is a world problem that has v=caused this entire generation of people ti devolve into a shell f what we thought we would eventually become. There is no doubt in my mind that self destruction is where we are headed and it may not be as far off as we think either. Artistry suffers when human creativity is stunted by self inflicted calamity. But there is hope that maybe the next generation coming along will lead us out of the stupidity we display. As a lifelong Californian I agree that we have a lot of work to do. But as a human I would suggest that Californians are not unique in this need to work it out. As an artist who teaches young artists coming up I can say for a fact that there is still a treasure trove of creative force out there.
