A Song Should Be One of Two Things ...
Either beautiful, or fun! Lots of songs exist only because they're fun. Fun to sing along to, fun to listen to. And you can really tell when the musicians were having fun recording it. And sometimes there's beauty in that. But sometimes beauty is enough. I love getting taken away by a beautiful melody and it's certainly more profound than most songs that are simply fun, and nothing else. Like novelty songs - they're fun on purpose, but I can't think of one that I would describe as beautiful. And then you have Beethoven - I think everything he did was beautiful, but I wouldn't call it fun. Can you think of a song that you would consider both beautiful and fun - I'd like to hear it!

“When I’m 64” by the Beatles is fun but touches on some serious themes. It also has beautiful music and harmonies.
