Anyone Read Dylan's Book on Popular Song?
I'm enjoying it. He doesn't write about songs the way a critic would, he riffs like a poet about the soul of the songs. And he draws from a broad range of songwriters from Stephen Foster to the Clash and everywhere in-between. Being that he has some years on me, he has more musical experiences to draw from, and many of the older songs I'm not even familiar with. But he gives a few pages to each song, and the publisher has dolled it all up with vintage photos and memorabilia (not of Dylan, but rather more of the era) throughout. Everything he writes comes across like poetry.

I think that will be the next book for me. I'm currently reading Bill Graham's biography for the second time, one of my alltime favorite books. I loved Dylan's Chronicles, waiting for part 2. the last book I finished was Lisa Robinson's There Goes Gravity which was really great.

Yes, my wife gave me the book for Christmas because she knows I’m a Dylan fanatic. You’ve described it well. The guy is a freakin’ genius and has a thought process that is way outside the box. I enjoyed the book immensely!
