What is the average length of your songs?
What is the average length of your songs? Mine is between 4 minutes and 4 min 30 seconds. I recently wrote a song that is 5 min and 2 seconds which is very unusual for me. I could trim it a little and still stay true to the essence of the song but I’m not sure if I want to. There are some solos that could be shortened but they sound really good. Have you written songs that are 5 min or more? I always think that listeners get bored after a certain amount of time. I would also guess that publishers or recording artists looking for songs to put on albums would not sit through a longish demo of a song. What are your thoughts on song length in general?

Four or five for mine. With the smooth jazz genre, it gives everyone a chance at expressing themselves. My earlier stuff that has lyrics are the standard 3-4 min. D.

Three to four minutes - they just always seem to come out that way haha! In another band I'm in which is a lot of lovely African instrumental music,(I play flute with them) the tracks are nearer ten minutes but it's a different style of music. I think up to four minutes is usually enough for a standard song.....

"Average" would probably be "at least" 6 minutes... cuz most of our "short" songs are "at least" 3 minutes "Long"... and plenty of the other ones are "well over" six.

I've always felt that 3 minutes is the perfect amount but most of ours come in at 4 to 5.

I'm about 3 to 4 mins normally. I don't aim for this thou. think 4:36 is my longest???
