Which kind of lyrics do you prefer write: autobiographical lyrics or non-autobiographical lyrics and why?

I like lyrics with some kind of truth to them, and the truth I know the best is the truth inside my head. So, my lyrics tend to be autobiographical. You can only write what you know, and you know your own story best. If you're telling someone else's story, it's easy to be superficial, and not get to the real emotion.

For me it's experiances . Then usually a Hook line and Melody will come. usually the title. Like One day when I was drinkin' in the Barn. And it came the next day before work. Wrote itin 5 Min's. No thinkin or drinkin' required. LOL Peace, Brucer

I like the approach you take to your lyrics where you just let it flow. I do find that the end result for your lyrics usually lands in the autobiographical category.

Lyrics just come into my mind rather randomly - I don't "plan" a song it just comes to me - usually in the middle of the night when I'd rather be asleep but they'll plague me till I get them written down - then from that I have to write a melody etc - I almost never gets melodies first.....
