Even the best people I know are utter zombies

I've watched this unfold for awhile and when I think about the early days of the internet and how raw and wild it was, these days the atmosphere sickens me. People are afraid to take chances, they can't even stand to watch other people take chances. There used to be all this performance art going on, now anything like that is looked on as wrong by even normally cool people. Where is the vitality? Where are the dynamic artists? I think only the missionary position is allowed anymore, wtf? The way artists promote themselves, they're like groundhogs who crawl out of a hole, shyly, say their piece if they can get their words out, even, and then promptly crawl back into the hole. It doesn't have to be like this, people.

Bob what happens when you engage someone who you think is not a zombie but they are and they bite your face off? Birdy, The ostrich approach does not work. Old time methods of flyers and what used to be done before the internet age has flown south for the winter never to return. You either join the fray or get pushed aside. There is no time or regard for those who cling to how they once were. Such things are a fools errand its gone never to come back you can either deal with it and get into modern promotion or languish in the past. We must continue to evolve or become a faded part of history . Those who shutter them self away from the internet and its vices don't escape it they are simply forgotten.

The problem with thinking of people as zombies is that when you meet them, they are usually more complex.

It is perfectly possible to be a musician and happy person WITHOUT the internet. I have friends who still write letters and use public phone booths. They put adverts in their local shop window and fill the pub with real, flesh and blood friends. Handing out flyers is a dated concept but people who are non internet savvy still use that method. I wouldn't call them wild and raw however. Fly was talking about the way things were in the early days of the internet and it seems like he wants to return to that era - maybe he is the zombie, slowly plodding forward without looking to either side, hovering on the internet where he can make rash statements or insult people without any comeback because he's just a cute fly. You don't have to be exciting or take chances to be popular, you can sit in your chair and wait for social media to do it for you. Make your video around a song you 'engineered' and pay someone to create a buzz.

yeah I agree with Ken on this, Birdy, you seem too terrified. What's the internet ever done to you that has you reacting like this? Most people are pretty nice. Sure there are scammers but they're almost always really obvious.

so Birdy in your view should we all become ostriches and bury our head in the sand for fear we might find something scary on the internet? Should be become so mind numbed by the violence and aspersions you mentioned that we become zombie's as fly mentioned? To each I say no. There are those of us who are not yet subdued by the internet mind fuck that tries its hardest every day to turn our brains into mashed potatoes and tells us to go to the store and buy more stuff more stuff will make you happy. Wrong... so..very ... wrong... For this individuals who yet stand we must fight with whatever fight we have left against the mind fuck and against those who have been mind fucked. If we as a collective make enough noise we might stop the drone if even for a minute and possibly thousands or millions could be awaken from slumber. Its not too late its not too far gone refuse to walk the line with the other zombies fight until the final curtain is draw and when it falls rip it to shreds. As Winston Churchill said "we shall go on to the end we shall never surrender"

And in the 'old days' People use to leave their back doors open and never get burgled. Children could walk to school and not be abducted. Youngsters respected their elders and policeman. Musicians all played actual instruments. You could trust teachers, doctors, priests (maybe not politicians). Virgins existed. TV shows were safe to watch for all the family. Athletes were clean. Food wasn't poisoned with additives. Breasts were real. Cash was used. and what you wrote, said or did to your friends was private. Of course people are afraid to take chances when the internet is such a scary, bewildering place where you can get hoodwinked, abused and in many cases end up broke, imprisoned ... or dead!

well I'm not a zombie expert but I watch the walking dead which likes to kill of zombies. Your response sounds more like non-zombie than zombie to me. Do you think that these internet zombies can be waken up or once they fall into the zombie zone they are doomed?

What's new to many people is that the internet is another version of life. It's not just real people using a device, it's dominated by people who dwell on it, and they have a whole separate reality and they're not going to accept whatever narrow reality you bring to this party.

so what's new fly?

Zombies may still be active participants in society, but you'll know the truth about them when you see their reaction to something new.

In part I agree with fly the majority of the world has fallen asleep at the wheel, however, I will dare say there are a few who have not yet fallen into the zombie curse but fight it back. Won't you join the fight fly or are you a zombie too? The question answers itself because a zombie would not even bring it up in the first place don't you agree Fly?
