Scrambled Eggs, Lyric Development
'Yesterday" is among the most famous, often-recorded songs in history. Well known that Paul McCartney's first lyric was not "Yesterday/all my troubles seemed so far away..." Rather "Scrambled eggs/babe you've got nice legs..." Fascinating... Originally, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" was written with darker lyrics, until Judy Garland insisted it didn't quite fit the tone of the movie "Meet Me In St. Louis," where she's singing to her younger sister, about their family being torn apart. So, the writer Hugh Martin, not happy about it, relented, and developed new lyrics, to meet her demands, and was he glad he did. The song is among the most popular Christmas songs ever sung. Also, Frank Sinatra's version made it to #1 in the charts.
