Your right there i have had the same bass for decades. It has a certain sound that no new bass could replicate. I have went in to the guitar shop many times to try and find something comparable. So i could sell it on give it to a working musician. The basses i like are all vintage and cost thousands. I think u are better off with what you got and stick to it. It comes out on stage if your a flash person with far to much money. Or your a committed musician who is out there to entertain maybe make a few quid. Because you have taken to the time to learn your craft. The wages are shite nowadays it,s really not worth it. They haven,t moved on since the 80s Would you spend 12 hours for a few bucks an hour to play in a big venue. I know how much a band gets paid even in the big time festival scene. When you break down the costs. You are better off working at Mcdonalds flipping burgers

My son is affected by gas, but he just buys guitars and pedals, so hands on!
