Making a fresh start when you don't know where to begin
They always say it's possible to have a fresh start, a clean slate. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. In my practice I occasionally run into people who have had so many fresh starts the only starts they have left are used and dirty. I don't know what to tell them, they are hopeless and in a very dark, black place. I've told them to pick up the pieces and I've seen them try but I also understand why they find it impossible. I can't persuade them to find another way of thinking so I may retire from being a shrink, I need a fresh start.
