on finding the right window for your muse to come in and speak to you

Willie Nelson finds a moving car the best place for him to write songs. I have a recliner in a corner of my studio with a noise machine and my space heater. I also like to write in motel rooms. We need to find new places to inspire us, if you're taking shortcuts you're handicapping yourself I think.

Walking helps waken the Muse, imhv... Start with baby steps...(I did, decades ago) The rhythms, the rhythms... I have sent along music/instrumental to a John Hopkins U. Mobility project, that encourages the nation to walk... Good for cardio, for a new surge of endorphins, and refreshing...

That dismissive voice in your head Is blocking your muse.

I sometimes feel guilty that I'm no longer involved here but the simple reason is that I don't have anything new to add musically. I do however still write lyrics, poems, stories and skits etc. My muse is a mystery to me, popping up unexpectedly in any location or situation. I love rhyme, so any phrase I hear, in the shops, on the news, in family conversations, the muse jumps in to grasp a rhyming idea and shake it in my face until I have to scribble it down. Lately my muse has taken a back seat so now I'm having to come up with original stuff on my own. However, when you've written for 25 plus years it's hard to know what's original.... then my muse sighs and glibly utters "Oh no, not that old chestnut again" My ideas (and life) are now on autoplay - I still look in at IMP, the cradle of my music career. Sometimes the best lines come to me as I am stepping into the shower, and I don't have paper and pencil handy. I've written songs in moving cars. I never knew Willie did that! Cool!
