Andy ... I'm not sure where it was in '67 ... or how far it made it in '67/'68 ... it wasn't released until the last week in November '67 ... Yeah John ... that was pure Lennon ... on ACID ... :) Although he was a genius, the Acid brought out the best in a lot of Artist of the day ... no holds barred ... no inhibitions ... just pure soul... They say the "eggman" was another Artist I just love ... Eric Burden ... but John liked to make people wonder ... so it could have been anyone really

So what number was the walrus? There are a few classics amongst that 24 though. Aretha, Sam & Dave, Stevie Wonder, The Doors ....

you're right Sam, kinda blues scale sounding for the 1700's very hip stuff back then. I wonder what the top 24 songs were at the time? :) Yeah Sam 1967 had a lot of great non top 40 stuff I know. And alot of those songs listed above are great. But they all fit in a already done before song formula. And that's what I was getting at. I am the Walrus is revolutionary in composition, instrumentation layering, with voice overs and sound effects, and on top of all that it still ROCKed. Hell Led Zep sold their soul to the devil for that kind-a chord progression. And yes Sir George Martin had a lot to do with it. But that is pure Lennon genius!

John definitely had it goin' on ... but to be fair we'd really have to look at what else was being written in '67 ... besides the top 24 ... or for that matter the top 124 ... :) Now here is a cat that was ahead of his time .... of course he's not playing it but ... Tomaso Albinoni wrote this around 1700 ...
