The most important topic on Earth. For Musicians (clarification)
Yesterday I said, "we should boycott all award shows. {especially the Grammy's) until this is fix'd once and for all.To me there is no celebration until this monumental injustice is takin care of." I in no means, was refering to our own in-house, Golden Kayak Awards Tournement. IAC is a great believer in helping writers and musicians. They are the polar opposites, of the people I am angry with. I am honored to be a member of such a ground breaking organization. I vote and will continue to vote. And I hope you all will too. Long Live the IAC! John

That's ludicrous. There's a big difference between the artist giving their own music for free, and people downloading copyrighted material P2P. The majority of people who download 'illegally' know that what they're doing is illegal. The fact is that ignorance seems to be a much more conscious-easing excuse.

I understand all that srm - that's old news! All I am saying is that people get used to things, people grow to have expectations which are influenced by what they see and experience around them... And it's certainly not about "my music" and "your music", it's about musicians being able to make an honest living working at their craft, it's about artists seeking and receiving fair recompense for their art and for the pleasure it gives others.

If I choose to give my music away for free (which I have done on occasion), I don't see how that would affect whether you are able to sell your material or not. Perhaps I'm being obtuse. The people who might want to download my music for free might still want to buy yours. In fact, the very people who like your music might not want my music, even if it was freely given. Different artists approach the marketplace in different ways.

Indeed John. It's a difficult topic, even here at IAC, because it seems to me that there are some artists here who are more than happy to give their music away, they seems to be happy if anyone even listens to their music! I don't want to start another controversy, but to me that attitude doesn't help the cause of musicians being able to earn a living from making music!
