high maintenance neighbors can go to hell

So I moved into a new apartment about a year ago. The apartment across the hall is occupied by this lady JoAnn who literally knocks on my door 2 or 3 times a day, and then I made the mistake of giving my phone number cause I didn't want her to knock and now she not only knocks all the time but calls and wakes me up 2 or 3 times a day. I hate her. I try to be nice but I'm about to explode. She is an incredible mooch. She asked for macoroni and cheese the other day. Sometimes it's eggs, she keeps mooching ibu profin pills. Then she rewards me for my kindness by constantly giving gifts I don't want. Seriously the next time she calls or knocks i'm going to tell her to stop, my rent doesn't include involvement with her, what a piece of crap.

Yeah, way more understanding than I'd ever have been, Todd. My first reaction was total horror to have your privacy invaded like that. But I may be just as wacky as the neighbor just on the other end of the spectrum.

Fuck her. I mean it.

Yeah, Todd, you're a nice guy. I worked at a pawn shop as a broker for a long time. Give them an inch,. Being clear and blunt commands respect. People will take you as far as you let them. I have a story about a 350 lb truck driver who wouldn't quit harassing my father. It got dicey because my idiot father is a pussy.

That's compassionate, but I have talked to the lady, she has all her facilities, she's just a user I think.

Sounds like you may be dealing with somebody that has emotional/mental issues of some sort. Best thing to do, before you blow her off, is start a brief conversation with her, asking her if she has any family in the area -- showing interest and whatnot. Find the family's phone number and keep it on hand in case anything blows up with her. Then, if you need to, be polite and tell her that she is imposing on you. She may not understand what she is doing wrong, but that is all the more reason to be firm, but not nasty. If worse comes to worse (and only as a last resort), call her family if you can and let them know that she is having a hard time. But also let them know that you don't want to or need to be involved, you just wanted to give them the information and let them do what they need to. Otherwise, this could get ugly for both of you, unfortunately. And, if she is unwell, try to remember that, no matter how incredibly annoying and intrusive she is, it's not really her fault. She's sick and can't help it. The same way that somebody who has a cold can't help but sneeze.

Godspeed, brother.
