I Blew It.

I tried to install a new(old) video making prog on my music computer, The install went fine, but the prog would not launch, failing at the loading screen, I had a look online and a couple of other people suggested that the problem could be solved by updating the windows. So I had a look around and found an update pack, downloaded it, made a system restore point, then ran the update. Big mistake, upon restarting, the PC went into a blue screen of death reboot loop, I couldn't select safe mode, so I tried sticking the windows dvd in the machine to do a system restore, nope it wouldn't work, so I tried a repair install, nope no joy there, by this time I was shaking and cold sweats... I found an active@te boot disk and a usb backup drive and booted from the dvd, I managed to save all my files and tunes, phew.... but the operating system was toast, like 15 years of working machine gubbed.... So I had to reinstall from the bottom up. No fun, just laborious searching disks for my programs and trying to remember which versions etc... I've just about got it back to something like I had before the crash, but it's taken many hours, So the moral here is an old one; If it ain't broke......

Had to change my computer because technology caught up with me. I had to buy a new one because of windows 11. I don't even trust "the cloud". I use an external hard drive with twice the capacity of my PC. Also, those thumb thingies.... D.

Horrendous when that happens - I've just been trying to sort out my grandson's computer who also had the blue screen of death - managed to retrieve photos and vids but all the rest has disappeared so have to hope someone will be able to find the missing drive.......if it broke don't fix it doesn't always work either as they upgrade thinghs and stop supporting stuff as well ..... I'm glad I've got my main stuff on physical CDs as well haha!!

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate tech problems. I totally agree with the moral to your story about not fixing what isn’t broken. All upgrades carry some risk and because of that, I’m extremely cautious about doing them.
