art is hard
i thought i'd post some lyrics by the band "Cursive"... ..quite a talented group stuck in the realm of that "emo-screamo" scene, , , and here they take a pretty good shot at that scene while breaking themselves out of it, finally. ..at least,, that's how i see it. (i don't like to offend, i'm a wus that way) ...it comes from a brilliant album called "The Ugly Organist" that is well worth the listen! the lyrics are really, for me, a push to keep my writing and my music fresh, cuz it's so easy when you find a great subject that people seem to enjoy too, to just keep going back to it, , when for me , as a writer, i like to write to realise, work things out, and then move on! so,, whether this is how they meant the song to be taken or not,, i thank them for it. and they are on this site..... http://iacmusic.com/artist.aspx?id=16378.. .. and it had me fooled, i haven't heard the older stuff (shame on me), and didn't even think they were the same band!!! so they indeed do keep it fresh! Art is Hard - Cursive Cut it out your self-inflicted pain is getting too routine The crowds are catching on to the self-inflicted song Well, here we go again: the art of acting weak Fall in love to fail to boost your cd sales and that cd sells yeah what a hit You've got to repeat it you gotta sink to swim First you don't, you don't succeed you gotta recreate your misery we all know art is hard young artists have gotta starve Try and fail and try again the comforts of repetition Keep churning out those hits 'til it's all the same old shit Oh, a second verse Well, color me fatigued i'm hiding in the leaves in the cd jacket sleeves Tired of entertaining some double-dipped meaning a soft-serve analogy Those drunken, angry slurs in 31 flavors Gotta sink, gotta sink, gotta sink to swim immerse yourself in rejection Regurgitate some sorry tale about a boy who sells his love affairs You gotta fake fake fake the pain You better make make make it sting You're gonna break break break a leg when you get on stage and they scream your name: Oh cursive is so cool! You gotta sink gotta sink gotta sink to swim impersonate greater persons 'cause we all know art is hard when we don't know who we are

well, i go outside and play, hike, sit at the bar by the lake and have a beer or two and write or read, , , i drive for a job so i'll burn songs-in-progress and sing harmonies to them to write new parts,, ,,, i hang out with my girl. . . . . i don't find it hurts to find my source for pomes, , i enjoy writing about beauty, the joy of what's around me, , the happiness of newly realising what i've known all along but forgotten along the way.. it's not just pain and angst that make me write! i'm so, so glad you've been reading. i dig posting my writings. never done that before! yay!

Hey you! I was just reading your info on your page. The personal stuff? So....what do you do when you are not dazzling and inspiring us with your poetry and lyrical snippets? You seem like a pretty damn interesting guy...... I wish I still wrote poetry. I wrote constantly in high school, being all torn up and angst-y and all. But the last poem I wrote was probably 8 years ago, and I had to dig DEEP for that one. I've found that it hurts too much to go that deep anymore. NOT a fun place for me personally. But I really like your stuff. It's often very beautiful. :) K
