Then and Now - Have your musical tastes changed
If you think back to the first music you bought and listened to and the music you play today, can you see virtually no change, a progression of similar stuff or a total switch of style? I mostly bought Mariah, Elton, Witney and some heavier Metallica and Nirvana but I listened to my parents oldies and Folk songs. I resisted the Boy bands, Dance and Rap, eased off on the heavy Rock but still seek rocking Pop from solo artists and I still chill on my Folks old stuff. How about you?

Hi Amanda. I still love the same music. I've always loved interesting lyrics and melodic sound in a variety of genres. I love classic. I love jazz and pop well done. I love just drumming songs and good instrumentals. I love folk rock and Americana. I have always had a love of good vocals no matter what genre. I'm not overly fond of country, never have been but I think their are some great country singers out there. I have never liked heavy metal, the kind with just screaming and no real melody. I didn't like it as a teen and I still don't. It gives me anxiety. So really I guess nothing has changed. :-) deb

My musical tastes have broadened and expanded since I FIRST got my taste of The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, and many others; back in the day. It is my life work & hope that they continue to do so, as I grow as a person, and musician. Really enjoying this thread, Amanda. -luv, pHLeGm

Hi Amanda..I still like what i liked then, but my taste is kinda constantly expanding to encompass more..altho its mainly 60s music lol I get really obsessed and fal in love with with certain types of music-try and take in vibe, style and creativity what i can from it,then move to a different type of music and do the same.. Thats the brilliance of the net and places like youtube..Its a whole education if you want it to be.. Recently on youtube i've been making huge playlists of Motown and the last 3 weeks its been late 60s/early 70s Brazilian Tropicalia...A mix of psychedelia and bossanova and samba-its so magical, free and creatively inspiring.. The next thing for really exploring and investigating is probarbly gonna be 60s French Pop

I loathed the Beatles... until I became a musician. Other than that I've stayed pretty consistent on loving old stuff and new stuff alike, but usually not falling for about 30 of the top 40. -Drewsus

My musical taste had to change to keep up with the times and the top 40 when it comes to the cover band work I do. As far as my own musical taste; As a kid my dad played old school country, and he tried to get me to play country. I insisted on playing Rock. Now I find that country has kind of morphed into a light rock with a twang and it's not all that bad. There are so many genres now and I find that a lot of them can be narrowed back down to Rock. I really enjoy the true honesty and writing of the Indie people here. My real love is Fusion Jazz though. D.
